I'm beyond excited to share with all of you that my husband Nate and I just recently took the plunge and decided to embark on a 1 year "gap year" starting March 27, 2018 in the magical Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico for a few months! Then off to Central & South America (we are not yet decided on which countries). Although it has been on our hearts and minds for a long while now, we finally made it official and bought our one way tickets to Cancun airport. We couldn't be more stoked!
After visiting Tulum Mexico and its surrounding areas (like Sian Ka'an) this past May, we absolutely fell in love with the people, the culture, the nature, and the overall feel-good, friendly, laid back vibe. It was at this time we felt deeply inspired and called to embark on a longterm journey. Although it is unknown to us exactly what this adventure will hold or how it will unfold, we have faith and trust in our heart and in our gut, this is the right decision. Our hope and our mission is to take both of our shared interests for documentary film, photography, indigenous matters, native plant restoration and wildlife conservation, as well as broader humanitarian needs out into the world. Although we feel we have something to offer in terms of skills, knowledge and services to those we connect with, we are extremely humble because we know that what we will learn and receive and impact our lives by way of friendship, new perspectives, experiences and skills is vastly limitless.
What we hope to accomplish is a symbiosis, an integration of both our [separate] passions. Again our deepest intention (if not more importantly) is to remain open for being wholly and deeply impacted and allowing ourselves to be transformed by a different culture, mindset and environment... through the many ups and the downs. To never stop learning and growing shall be my motto. And to document all of it as much as we can, so we can share it back with you, our community :)
We are also looking into digital nomad type work (i.e. freelance videography & editing, photography, blog writing, etc.) as well as teaching English on the side to make a bit of money to sustain us on the road.
Our plan to record the journey - the ups and the downs - through film, photography, writing and any other expressive means - will certainly be a work in progress.. the opportunities and possibilities are endless in terms of final products and distribution. We also wanted to start this travel blog as a platform to share the documentation of the different projects we will be involved in.
If you have any ideas, contacts, recommendations (i.e. for non profit programs) or suggestions - we are ALL EARS... please share away!
Life is such a mysterious, exciting and beautiful journey... more to come friends.
Love and blessings,
Cassie and Nate
